The tie vote: meaning and arithmetic
What to do. A tie vote (popil) is an equal highest number of votes for several candidates. First calculate how many votes each one needs. Then think through the consequences of the procedure provided by the rulebook: extra speeches, a re-vote and the possible next stages.
How it sounds. We have eight voters and two candidates. To get a 4:4 tie, the votes must be distributed exactly. But first we must understand why we are putting off the choice at all.
Exercise. Play out 4:4, 3:3:2 and 5:3. Explain why only some outcomes make a tie of leaders.
