Reviews of violations: how not to mix up penalties
Status of the material. This is a study aid of the club, not an official rulebook. The rules and the references to clauses were checked against the web version of the rules that is available, but there is no full clause-by-clause comparison. Before a game the club announces which rulebook and which edition it plays by. If they differ, the official rulebook takes priority.
Ten typical violations and what the referee checks in the rules. Do not apply the same penalty to different violations.
| No. | Violation | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Whispering outside the minute | Check RFM 5.9.1; record a foul. |
| 2 | Arguing with the referee | Check RFM 5.9.4; a short neutral announcement. |
| 3 | Knocking on the table | Check RFM 5.9.3; do not treat it as ordinary speech. |
| 4 | Gestures during the vote | Check RFM 5.9.7 and possible exceptions. |
| 5 | Touching under the table | Check RFM 5.12.4-5.12.6: possible disqualification. |
| 6 | A night hint | Check RFM 5.12.7 and the disciplinary procedure. |
| 7 | An insult | Check RFM 5.12.8 and the tournament rules. |
| 8 | Peeking at night | Check RFM 5.12.9; do not confuse it with an ordinary slip of the eyes. |
| 9 | The third foul | Under RFM 5.5 it limits the nearest speech; record the special procedure. |
| 10 | The fourth foul | Under RFM 5.6, removal without a last word. |
Example of a referee's reaction. "Player number five, the violation is recorded. We continue."
